“Prayer has failed, only intercession will bring us through!”, are the words Rees Howells uttered when WW2 broke out. Our prayers for Pres. Trump’s birthright citizenship and New Zealand’s euthanasia law, have failed. Only intercession will bring us through.
Before WW2, Rees Howells’ Bible college had been praying to prevent the war. Unfortunately prayer failed, so Rees Howells led the college to a new level of prayer, interceding for success in the war.
Over the following days, the college spent time consecrating themselves. Some students chose not to intercede and left the college to pursue their call. Others sacrificed their call to intercede for the war.
The college sought the Lord in repentance, seeking for a new level of godliness and obedience. It took time for everyone to come through. After everyone came through, the college began interceding.
For the following four years the college interceded every morning, every afternoon and every evening, sometimes into the early hours of the following day!
Each morning, Rees Howells would seek the Lord. “Lord what shall we pray!” Then Rees Howells would share with the college. They would continue in intercession until the prayer was answered, with a clear word from God.
During WW2, we saw four occasions when the war turned overnight, giving victory to the allies. The battle of Britain, the battle of Dunkirk, the battle for Moscow and the battle of Alamain. Until now, no one knows why these battles suddenly changed, but we know. Intercession succeeds where prayer fails.
Intercession succeeds where prayer fails
We spent many hours, along with others, praying New Zealand would reject the euthanasia bill. Surprisingly, the law was motioned by a center right politician and leader of the Act Party, MP David Seymour. Sadly the law passed.
I can understand how difficult it must be for family to watch their loved ones die, a slow, long painful death. It must be traumatic and heartbreaking.
However, nowhere in the Bible does God honour, or support people who commit suicide. The one occasion when King Saul committed suicide, to prevent a painful death, God did not honour King Saul or the person who claimed to kill him.
Admittedly, King Saul was under God’s judgement, nevertheless God never honours people who commit or support suicide, 1 Samuel 31:4.
There is excellent palliative care now available, so very few people need to suffer painful deaths. In Canada, the single greatest cause of death is euthanasia. (Tucker Carlson)
And now to the States, where Pres. Trump’s Executive Order, preventing birthright citizenship was overturned by SCOTUS. This is a surprising decision, and I believe a wrong one. We also prayed this through, believing the EO would succeed. Sadly it did not.
Therefore, children of tourism births and illegal aliens, are permitted to vote in US elections and receive all the benefits of the country. This is even if they hate the country and democracy, of which there are many, they can still vote and have the benefits! Strange, but this is how it stands.
However, God is not finished. Intercession can still prevail. Laws preventing tourism births and supporting the SAVE Act must be passed, if democracy is to survive. “You have a democracy if you can keep it!” said Ronald Reagan. How true!

Although near impossible, New Zealand’s Parliament could reverse the euthanasia law. The President’s EO could be passed by Congress and the Senate. There appears to be no other way. Whatever the solution, God will make a way.
We are seeking the Lord for the way through. Please share any guidance you receive.
